It’s been one heck of a summer, and a scorching hot one too. There seemed to be something happening or going on every time I turned around. I got behind on so many things including this blog, which I haven’t posted on since last November. I considered not renewing my subscription, but I enjoy sharing ideas, and have projects I still want to do, so I’m giving it a go for another year. We’ll see what happens.
Because of the heat and a family circumstance, my garden failed miserably; it looks like a jungle. I worked my way through it last week to gather some seeds but quit when I felt something go across my foot; that was creepy. It just needs a good weed eating at this point to ready it for winter.
I thought I’d get back in the swing of things with a little story behind a special piece of wall art I made recently.
We’ve always had craft boxes full of supplies, paint, playdough, etc. when there were littles around our house. It would keep our daughters, their friends, nieces/nephews, and grandkids busy for hours. One day, long ago, I was sitting at my desk when I noticed my three year old granddaughter walking towards me very slowly while looking down at something cupped in her hands like whatever it was might spill. I turned, with my hands cupped to receive whatever she was bringing me. She spoke so softly and said, “Grandma, I made you something…it’s a knot.” I looked down to see this little ball of gold ribbon and string she had so carefully tied and twisted together .. it was the most beautiful knot I had ever seen! I told her so and we walked together to put it front and center in my curio cabinet. Over the years she’s noticed that it was always there. I’ve often declared I would do something with it someday when an idea inspired me. That inspiration came when I was getting ready to toss a box of old frames and such. Something clicked when I saw the gold plastic mat in the metal frame and it developed from there.

Glue the plastic piece face down into the metal frame being careful not to let glue leak out onto the front edge of the frame. When dry, remove any excess glue.
The “knot” was centered and glued in place in the center of the mirror. Tags were glued in place.

Center and glue the back of the metal frame to the 8” x 10” piece of glass. I laid the glass in the back of the black frame to eyeball it better. Let it dry overnight. The finished piece will be a floating frame so it’s important to remove any excess glue around the metal frame; even the slightest bit will be noticeable.

After cleaning off any excess glue, polish the glass well so no prints or dust show. Glue the glass with the metal frame, face down, into the black frame, encasing the metal frame. Let dry.
I sealed the glass and frame on the back with black electrical tape to keep out dust and give it a finished look. I would have preferred to use washi tape or something similar but didn’t have any. I’ll probably replace it at some point.

And, there it is … I love it and my granddaughter loves it. Maybe she’ll keep it as a memory of her own someday.
Please feel free to comment or share, I’ll be back soon.
